I am loving this website by Gwyneth Paltrow. I maybe can't do everything quite as fabulously as her, but it's fun to dream!

Earth Hour
Last night from 8:30-9:30 I turned off all the lights to participate in Earth hour. Places all over the world such as the Eiffel Tower, and the Vegas strip turned off their lights to save a little. Here's what my view looked like:
In knitting news, I visited The Button Store on 3rd Street (what a great place, and the owner was very nice and helpful!) to finally finish up my Talia vest. I blocked it yesterday. Its made from Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride wool, so it might not be the best choice for Spring in LA, but maybe can be worn on a cool evening!
(Also, after this weekend I can no longer claim to be a natural blonde. I like how my hair turned out - its a subtle change!)

Candy Stripe Socks
The socks are done! They are a little wide, but overall I'm happy with the result. This was my first time knitting with size two needles, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. They went pretty quick, and while I probably won't make another pair for awhile, I will definitely knit socks again.
Pattern: Jaywalker Socks knit in Lion Brand Socke-Ease; color: Cotton Candy
Now if only I had this car to match...

First Birthday
Today is my darling little nephew’s first birthday. He has been the recipient of several knitted things already, so for his birthday I opted for something different.
I can get lost in Etsy.com for hours. When searching for baby items, I came across these oh-so-cute growth charts from Owlpeople. She made it up and sent it out the weekend after I ordered it. It says his name, and I was able to pick the fabric I wanted. There are extra pouches for pictures or other items. I think it turned out great! Etsy is such an awesome way to connect the crafty community. I am always amazed by all the creativity out there.
My nephew Miles is the cutest nephew ever. :) He is a walking machine, and loves to be smiley and silly. Happy birthday little man!
(at 7ish months)
I leave you with an unrelated, must-see video:

Movin' Sushi
With my girlie Allie in town, it's been a busy, fun week. One highlight was eating at Lucky Fish on Thursday night. I have been to Lucky Fish once before, but this night they were celebrating their one year anniversary. All plate and drinks were a dollar - can't beat that! Apparently a ton of other people agreed. We waited in line for over two hours for this deal! The sushi zips by on a conveyor belt so you can grab what you want. After stuffing ourselves with sushi, it was decided that it was worth the wait.
Last night we cheered on UW Basketball with a bunch of other Wisconsinites at Busby's in Santa Monica, and were all shocked by the win. Go Badgers! The weekend weather is spoiling our boating plans we had for today, but I'm sure we'll find something else to do. Happy weekend!

Birthday Weekend!
Friday the 13th (oooOOOooo) was my 25th birthday. I always think of it as extra lucky when my birthday lands on a Friday. Allie flew in from Madison to celebrate with me, which was a special treat. We went out for a sushi dinner at Koi, which was fantastic. It's pricey, but definitely a great pick for a birthday dinner. Allie was the delivery lady of great presents from home, and she'll be here all week!
On Saturday boyfriend arranged for us to enjoy a massage at Pho Siam. This massage was much needed, and at $40 for an hour, it was fantastic. Your muscles have to be ready to be beat up a little bit as they really go all out, but it's totally worth it!
I set out to make birthday treats from my new Martha Stewart cookie book, but plans quickly changed when I realized I’d have to go to the store for a few cookie essentials (and laziness really sets in on a Sunday). Funfetti to the rescue! I whipped up a batch of cookies using a Spring Funfetti cake mix, and between that and my knitting, and a brief Spring cleaning sprint, I am ready for Spring.
(ok, the lighting and the granite countertop aren't really helping out this pic, but you get the idea)
Sock #1 is complete! It is a little loosey goosey, but it gets the job done.
Hmm, I heard these things are supposed to come in pairs…the motivation for sock #2 has been a little low, but it'll get there.

My 0.15 Seconds of Fame
On a whim, Boyfriend and I went to be extras on a music video back in October. The video was for the band New Found Glory, who I don't really follow, but we thought it would be a fun experience. I was excited to see that the video came out today! Boyfriend and I are in the background in a few shots, but it zooms by so quickly you can hardly tell. What DOES help is that I am proudly wearing a white slouchy hat, knit by moi, of course. Because the hat was a light color, I got moved behind the band, as it would provide more contrast. Go slouchy hat!
See! There I am! Thanks to boyfriend for watching the video in slow-mo to capture a picture. Here's the whole thing, in case you want to play "where's Sarah?"
It's fun to see how a whole video comes together. Boyfriend and I were tired and so sore after six hours of jumping up and down and cheering for the band!

Starting Small...
As you know, I tackled my first socks around Christmas, and was quite proud of myself when I worked out the heel. Those socks were done with an aran weight yarn, and now I feel like it’s time to tackle the real deal: Size TWO needles with sock yarn? Eep! I cast on yesterday, and the adventure begins…
Boyfriend has a impromptu new hat – ripping out the yarn from the failed scarf/hood combo I tried out seemed to take just as long as knitting this thing. He’s happy with the result, and it’s always great when you don’t have to venture outside the stash to finish a project!
I had a fun weekend catching up with an old high school friend I hadn’t seen for years, and embracing the hot sun that appeared on Sunday. I hope you had a nice weekend!
